“An elastic athlete is more efficient because their contractions take less of a conscious thought and are more of a natural reaction. A non-elastic athlete must activate the muscle more to produce force, which requires more energy” - K. Hakkinen

5 Misconceptions of Golf Fitness
1. A great athlete equals good golfer
2. Yoga and pilates will equal better golf
3. High Intensity (plyometrics) equals better golf
4. ***If you don't workout you can't play good golf
5. Losing weight will increase range of motion
How does Golf Fitness Works?
We hope this clears the misconceptions for you because we don't want to mislead the golfing public by refering to golf fitness as the answer to better golf it is only a compliment to good technique and this is the first step to understanding how all this works together versus against each other. The players techinque or skill level relative to any sport Football, Baseball, Tennis or Golf will always override their limitations in quickness, strength or flexibility. That being said if a players function(techinque) if very effiecent then becoming a better athlete in quickness, flexibility and strength will add more power and accuracy relative to the sport therefore increasing their performance. Example, Do you think a personal trainer that could pass every golf screen or phyiscal screen could beat Craig Stadler in golf who in turn would have a difficult time passing any golf screens muchless phyiscal assessment. Our point is though if Craig Stadler increased range of motion, quickness, strength and changed his nutritional program his function and performance output would be increased and risk for injury would be reduced.Working out should be only a compliment to your technique or skill level you should not have the mindset that working out only will make you a better because you will probably get let down. One last thing increasing power output without correct biomechanics (technique) can sometimes cause more injuries because of more stress on the weaker exposed areas. (back, elbows, shoulders and wrist)

We take High speed video and digitize it so we can mark all of the joint centers of the body from feet to the top part of the spine along with the shaft and clubface so we can track it's path and speeds through the entire swing. The science behind the calculations are extremely complex, but the measurements and adjustments to it's finding make it so very simple to help golfers increase their skill level. Please note we use a launch monitor to capture some of the measurments below listed.
1. Clubhead path and it's directional speed through impact2. Swing Planes realtive to spine orientation3. Speed transfers beteween hips, shoulders, arms, clubshaft to clubface4. Center of mass away from target and towards the target (not a sway measurement)5. Body lines Hips, Shoulders and spine6. Face angle relative to address, wrist position and plane relative to spine7. Ball Position8. X factor from address to impact ability to stretch and close the gap for power9. Progression of wrist cocking and bending relative to the turning of the body10. Shaft deflection, loading and unloading at any point of the swing11. In and out direction and speed of club12. Up and down angle and speed of club13. Amount of Angular speed at impact(lag) Amount of MPH clubhead speed, Ball Speed and Ball Compression at impact14. Launch Angle15. Amount of backspin16. Amount of sidespin17. Computed distance and roll18. Tracking analysis of entire fitting for deviation and progression

Range of Motion, Stability, and Kinetic Link all in one
Primary Muscles Involved with Power in the Golf Swing:
Upper Body
• Pecs - Pectoral Major
• Lats - Latissimus Dorsi
• Mid-Back - Rhomboids
• Subscapularis - Rot. Cuff
• Triceps
• Forearms
Lower Body
• Buttocks - Gluteus Max. & Medius
• Legs - Quadriceps and Hamstring
• Stomach - Oblique and Rectus Abdominis
Where Do We Generate Power?

• Away Swing: No aggressive contractions occur during the away swing. The sole purpose of the away swing is to position the body and club for a powerful forward swin
• Forward Swing: Right external oblique and left internal oblique abdominal cause the pelvic and torso to rotate. The pec major, lats and subscapularis all have strong contractions to accelerate the arms. The spinal muscles and other rotator cuff muscles all help to create stability.

Golf Strength Program

- Through a comprehensive Functional Movement Screen, we can now identify and overcome any physical restrictions that are limiting your potential. Find out exactly what your weaknesses are and what exercises need to be performed in order to overcome them! After that, you will receive a Written Evaluation explaining why you swing the club the way you do, what physical weaknesses need to be addressed and a fitness handicap. Once we know what those weaknesses are, you'll receive a Customized Strength Program based on your screen results to get you on your way to playing better golf!
Have the screen done separately or combine it with a strength training program. I'll work with your PGA teaching professional, chiropractor and physical therapist to ensure a better result on the course!
Each session is divided into two major training units:
|
After all, would you rather feel like you played 18 after 36, or 36 after 18? Because Transverse Abdominis Recruitment is critical in every sport, the golf program has a more extensive progression than other programs. It emphasizes proper spine and body stabilization. Linear Core, Core Stability, and Rotational Core development increase core and abdominal strength. It is enhanced by the “medball” power section. Upper and Lower Body Prehabilitation exercises increase stability. They also aid in joint orientation consistency, decreasing the likelihood of injury. Forearm Strength and Stability will aid in club control. Greater control increases accuracy of drives, approach shots, and chips. Energy System Development (ESD) is the final component and increases endurance for players. Increasing general endurance insures consistent power development from the first tee to the 18th fairway! |
1. Active-Dynamic warm-up to get the body ready for movement.
2. Strength, stability, core, and prehab work comprises the remainder of the session. Combinations of the following components will create increased athleticism, and a better balanced, more powerful golfer:
Strength
Medicine Ball Power
Transverse Abdominis Activation
Linear Core
Core Stability
Rotational Core
Upper Body Prehabilitation
Lower Body Prehabilitation
Forearm Strength
Energy System Development (ESD)
The Strength component is a quadriceps and hamstring dominant exercise, including upper body pressing and pulling. Rotational strength and stability exercise is also included here and is crucial for training high-speed movement in the transverse plane (Rotational).
Kettlebell Power is a great tool for increasing power development. It includes linear and rotational power and rotational stability, critical in the game of golf. These exercises closely mimic actual golf movement patterns.
